Breaking Crypto with Power Analysis

Ever wondered how a tiny ripple in a device’s power line can betray its secrets and break cryptographic implementations? This workshop journeys from the idea of side-channel leakage to the classic attacks that exploit it. We will build an intuitive picture of SPA, DPA, and CPA, look at what a good power trace looks like, and discuss sampling, triggering, and noise so that the waveforms you collect are meaningful. After the concepts, we will demonstrate how to capture real traces using the ChipWhisperer Nano platform. You will see how small variations correlate with internal operations, why alignment matters, and how simple mistakes can drown your signal. If you bring a laptop with a USB port, you can follow and try the hands-on exercises on site using the ChipWhisperer Nano hardware. No prior hardware-hacking experience is required. If you have written a bit of Python or tinkered with microcontrollers, you will feel right at home, but curiosity is the only true prerequisite.
