Why are ARM CPUs so much more energy efficient?

The embedded systems world is huge. And almost every embedded system runs on an ARM microcontroller? People say that is because ARM is so much more energy-efficient than all the alternatives. But what are the alternatives? And why is that? In this talk we will go on on a deep dive into the CPU world, understand a lot of their inner workings and answer all these questions, and more. Only a rudimentary previous knowledge about CPU hardware is required. If you forgot most of your basic systems lecture that’s fine :) All the important basics of processor architecture will be explained and we are very open to questions and discussion during the session.
